Matthew Dolson: Former Butler’s Ranger, a disaffected soldier who joins the Smith gang.
Billy Cole: Boyhood friend of the sons of Claudius and member of the Smith Gang.

Jerusha Rumsey: Married to David Smith, sister of Abigail.
Richard “Dick” Smith: Claudius’s unpredictably violent son.

David Smith: Wealthy miller & tavern owner, a loyalist. Father of Claudius and husband of Jerusha.
Claudius Smith: Tory loyalist who becomes a domestic terrorist. Leader of a gang that created fear and disrupted the lives of people up and down the length of The Clove.
