
In 1778, in colonial Hudson Valley, a gang of Tory domestic terrorists called “The Cowboys” were on a spree of theft, intimidation, and murder. Among the victims of their pillaging were my ancestors, John and Rachel Earl, and their family. There are many versions of this story, some factual, many based on legends. Writing my story of the encounter has allowed me to visit and revisit sources and locations that I will share on this blog. The story of the story.
